"This
'Ageless Grandma' Roars Like A
Lyon
But Is Gentle As A Lamb!"
Spotlight
on...
Pamela Lyon
Pamela Lyon is a genuinely
warm, considerate, and caring human being. Pamela Lyon is a
mature, experienced, intelligent retired educator.
In short, she has all the
qualities that are necessary in a successful sales person.
And yet she was not
a successful online marketer until she found out how to display those
qualities to her prospects. "Sell yourself as
you're selling your product," is a habit we try to teach all
new Big Dogs.
Pam took that advice to
heart, and this is what happened...
Stan:
"Pamela, you and I have talked several times over the telephone,
but why don't you go ahead and give our 'troops in the trenches' some
background about yourself."
Pam:
"Thank YOU, Stan for giving me the opportunity to chat with the
Big Dogs family."
"I've been a Hoosier
for most of my life, although my college years were spent in Kansas.
I consider myself to be an 'ageless grandma' with four grandchildren
who bring light to my life. My husband Bob, a Change Leader in
his company, has been keeping me laughing for more than thirty six
years. The three boys we raised have become professionals in
engineering, teaching, and finance, and treasure their family life as
well. I'm a soprano in church choir and have actually spent more
than a decade employed as a Director of Music in another church."
"I retired early from
teaching math in the public school system and had the idea to open a
volunteer tutoring center - outreach to our community as a church
mission.. Two of my retired teacher friends joined me in the
quest and, as a result in less than four years there were six MTT
(Master Teacher Tutoring) centers located in the city that serve
grades one through eight with weekly one-on-one tutoring. I
wrote a handbook and applied for two separate grants, receiving them
both to help the centers purchase curriculum and books."
Stan:
"That is wonderful, Pam! I am constantly struck by
the fact that so many of our successful Alpha Dogs always have time
for a healthy family and community life. It seems to be an
incontrovertible law of nature that 'the more you give, the more
you get.' So just how did you get involved with Internet
marketing?"
Pam:
"My middle son taught me to 'surf the net' even before the word
'surf' existed. During the 90's, while I was still teaching, I
kept looking for an online business in hopes of working at home, where
some of the mundane tasks of living could be squeezed in during the
daytime hours."
"You name it - I
tried it! Everything from real estate to herbs and vitamins.
I had a closet filled with unused pamphlets, promotional training
tapes, food bars, computer parts, and manuals. Every time I
tried something new, funds simply 'flew out the window' - even though
I followed directions to the letter. Now, during that period of
time, when I asked my various sponsors how to bring customers to my
websites, I got answers like this: 'Go out after midnight and post
signs on utility poles at intersections,' or 'go through public
parking areas leaving flyers on car windows.' Fat chance!
Back in those 'dark ages' of the beginnings of Internet marketing very
few people knew ANYTHING about how to promote online."
Stan:
"So then you finally found the answers to effective online
promotion?"
Pam:
"Well, not quite (chuckle)! Like just about everybody, I
had to go through that blast-your-ad-to-billions-for-free
period of my marketing career. Of course all my efforts were
wasted. So my search became focused on finding just who DOES
know about online promotional techniques."
"Finally, I found Big
Dogs."
Stan:
"So is that when your marketing efforts took off?"
Pam:
"(another chuckle) I really wish I could say that was the
case... but it wasn't! Let me explain. I was introduced to
Big Dogs by a young gentleman by the name of Jared Crebs. At the
time, Jared was a college senior studying music. Since music was
also one of my fields we had commonality from the start."
"But Jared himself
would be the first to tell you what a terrible student I was!"
"You see, Stan, I was
determined to try Big Dogs totally on my own without the aid of some
young 'whippersnapper' the age of my youngest son! Don't get me
wrong - Jared was kind and respectful, even gentle with his
suggestions, but I simply refused to accept that someone so young
could be that smart about business."
Stan:
"Hmmm. Interesting. Just where did you and Jared
differ in your techniques? After all, you were an experienced
'woman of the world' at the time, with several successful years as a
teacher."
Pam:
"I believe that that was the very problem. You see, I think
my ad writing at the time was simply too formal - too stiff. Jared
was trying to teach me to write more 'warmly' in my ads - to bond
with my reader from the very start. After many
weeks of not listening, I finally relented and did EXACTLY what he
said. Well, you know the rest of the story. I got my first
sale and my husband and I did a dance around the room. My kids
were in shock. They had been rolling their eyes at my online
attempts for month!"
Stan:
"So by making yours ads more personal - more 'from the heart'
- you started to get results. This is one of the things that we
try to preach to new Alpha Dogs all the time; Yes, it is
important to sell the business in the ad, but even MORE importantly
one needs to sell oneself, and to come across as a genuine, for-real
human being."
Pam:
"Absolutely correct, Stan. Below is an ad that I think
points out this feature...
Hi!
I
really want to thank you for taking the time to read this and I want
to make sure you know that I'm a real person at my PC here in
Indiana. And, like you,
I've gone through some very difficult struggles trying to get an
online marketing business off and running. In fact, I nearly
gave it all up, because of not knowing what I needed to know.
You
deserve a pat on the back for doing the tedious work it takes for
the posting of your ad. That takes a lot of perseverance and
effort. And I'm not here to burst your bubble on this, but I
happen to know, without a doubt, that you are having no luck with
results whatsoever. Like I mentioned, I've been down the road
you're on right now. Would you mind hearing part of my story?
I retired early from teaching about the time my third son was
finishing college. I wanted a business to work at home, so I
could eat meals with my husband, keeping us both healthier, yet
still being able to complement our retirement someday with residual
income.
Well,
you name it, I tried it---and no matter how wonderful the website
was, I just didn't know how to bring people to see it on a steady
basis. I really searched for the answers to this, but the
people I asked knew LESS than I did---and that wasn't much.
One man told me to go out after midnight and hammer posters onto
utility poles at intersections! (Can you picture this grandma
up high on a ladder outdoors in the dark?)
Then
some (blankity, blank) person told me I should post my ads to FFA
sites. That was supposed to get my ad LOTS of coverage---what
it got me instead was LOTS of junk email that kept me busy cleaning
my inbox every single day for weeks! Man, that was the end of
it online for me until...
...I
got an email from this young guy who was finishing college at a
Texas university. For some reason he seemed to know just what
was happening to me and said he knew of some information that could
help. The interesting thing was that he said he was sure I had
seen the site before, but just not read it. He said that most
people just view the opening headline and then delete it without
reading it. I couldn't imagine what he was referring to.
The point is that his situation completely CHANGED when he read it
himself and he really sounded sincere. Here's where he sent
me:

Well,
I had wasted SO MUCH time and money already, I actually waited a
whole day before I went to the site that he showed me. What a
shame---I could have been a lot more informed just that much sooner.
What I found was truly the answer to the problem I was having all
along. My gosh, I even found out WHY posting to FFA sites will
never work.
It
wasn't long before I knew the steps there and followed them to a
tee. The neatest thing took place right away---the junk email
stopped coming to my inbox. Then I noticed my website was
getting a lot of clicks and before long, I saw the FIRST sale I ever
had online. What a day that was! Even my husband got
excited. Now, after a few months of using these steps, I have
made 127 real results and have residuals from some of those coming
in every day! There's no hype here---I can prove it to you.
(Target

Now,
let's turn to you---if you do nothing different, if you continue to
post and delete day after day, is your lifestyle going to change?
Are your efforts going to be worth ANYTHING at all if you produce no
results? Results are the very core of the reason you are
working so hard to begin with, aren't they? Well, even if you
don't believe a word of what I've said so far, pay close attention
here---WITHOUT reading this information, you don't have a chance in
a million of getting results. If you DO read it and follow
what it says, you give yourself the possibility of success in your
online work.
Well,
listen, I really appreciate the fact that you're still reading and
want you to know I am here for you in this. Even though you've
seen this site a million times, READ it this time and give yourself
the chance you deserve. Don't wait like I did to know what ALL
successful online marketers know and use. The sooner you know,
the sooner your results can change. It's time for you to make
a choice-for whatever you're looking for in YOUR life. Same
old junk email OR the chance for real results. The steps are
right here:

Very

(Phone Number)
Stan: "Very
nice ad, Pam. It is certainly not stiff and overly formal.
In fact, it fairly shouts, 'Hey, LISTEN to
me! I'm a real person and I KNOW what you're going through!'
Now, in closing would you care to analyze it a bit for us, and explain
some of your successful copy writing philosophies."
Pam:
"Of course, I would be glad to!"
"First of all, you
must understand that online advertising is very different from
conventional media work. Your
subject line is absolutely crucial and if you can’t get the
reader to open the email with the subject you write, your ad will be
quickly deleted."
"Secondly,
if you don’t put your ad through a spam-checker before you
send it, it may never arrive in the first place."
"Finally,
and most importantly, if your first paragraph does not bond
with the reader’s feeling and interests, again, it will be deleted.
I tell my downline to write their ads to their 'Great Aunt
Sophie,' who has been totally frustrated with trying to get an
online business going, experiencing all kinds of hype, and abounding
in skepticism. The
marketer needs to identify with her feelings, treat her with the
greatest respect, and yet be honest about outcomes.
Aunt Sophie appreciates that since she is an honest person. The writer also needs to tell her from the start that he
knows she is 'up-to-her-ears' with things to do and that he is very
grateful for her time."
"And one more observation: Have
you ever noticed when grocery shopping that the stockers reorganize
products in different places quite often? This is because the
products that weren’t noticed before are suddenly seen when placed
in a different location. You
need to constantly focus on new ads, as well as what is working for
you now, to keep growing and improving.
Change keeps people alert and brings more choices.
That is where Big Dogs towers above most other programs online.
Every year, it is ‘out with what is no longer fruitful’ and
‘in with the new proven online producers.’
(Change keeps people alert---that’s also why I write fresh
new ads as often as possible.)"
"I’m
successful and living the life I have chosen and I thank God for Jared
and Stan and all my Big Dogs associates for making it
possible!"
