"The 19th Time is the Charm!"

Spotlight on...
Scott Young

Scott Young could not have picked a WORSE time to start his Big Dogs career!

As we know, summer (June, July, & August) is a slow time for virtually ALL types of sales - unless you're selling swimming pools!  And of the twelve calendar months August is undoubtedly the slowest, with December a close second.

Scott upgraded to Alpha in July...

...and had a mere handful of sales for the month.

But his perseverance and hard work paid off, because in August - when half the population of the United States is either vacationing, getting the kids ready to go back to school, or just plain sweating - Scott QUADRUPLED his production during the month when sales are expected to bottom out!

How he did it is a text-book example of the power of patience and determination.  Let's take a look...

Stan:  "Good afternoon, Scott, and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the rest of the troops.  Let's start by talking a little about your personal life.  It's obvious you're the quintessential 'family guy.'  Care to elaborate?"

Scott:  "Thanks for the opportunity, Stan.  I'm 23 years old and I am going to be married on November 15th of this year to a beautiful woman named Catherine. We already have a 10-month-old baby boy named Brian Scott. Brian is slowly turning me into what I call a 'daddy-geek.'"

"I swear I was cool until Brian showed up!"

"Anyway, other than promoting Big Dogs on the Net, I own & manage a small company named Advanced Irrigation Systems, Inc. We design, install, and repair automatic lawn sprinkler systems. We do not have the equipment or license to drill wells, but we do work on various lawn water pumps."

"I also have completed two years at a local community college with business management, but I have noticed that I learn more in the real world rather than school. Now, I'm not knocking school at all - you must get your education - but I feel that life experience is the real teacher."

Stan:  "Well said, Scott.  You're clearly a very 'centered' person, with an extensive and successful business background in the OFFline world.  What was your ONline experience like before climbing on board the Big Dogs train?"

Scott:  "I have 'messed around' on the Internet for about three years, but never been serious about making money with it until about four months ago. I got suckered into one of these 'get rich quick' scams and before you know it, I was spending every spare minute on the computer trying to find another way to make money! I was convinced that there was a way and I was not going to give up until I found it!"

"I've tried buying 'opt-in' business leads from various companies and even tried the now infamous 'Bulk Mailing' technique. I've even tried buying 'Guaranteed Traffic' and different traffic exchange programs, but nothing seemed to work. This is the point at which I started using Ad Blasters to promote various Online Business 'opportunities' that I would join. I was not aware at the time that I was using the wrong tools and promoting the wrong type of business. The programs I was trying to promote had no real value that people could derive from them and they had no marketing plan other than buy 'opt-in' leads from them."

Stan:  "Hmmm.  Sounds like you were going through your own, personal 'year of horror' - that dismal time which ALL of us Internet marketers go through when we're just starting out.  So how did things change for you?"

Scott:  "Then came Big Dogs to the rescue!"

"I must have seen your site about 20 times before I finally bought the book. My first thoughts were that the market was 'saturated' with this e-book and there was no way I wanted to compete with everyone who was selling it. At the time I did not understand the myth of ad saturation on the Net."

"I purchased the book anyway with the intention of using the techniques that I learned from the book to promote my then current business opportunity. By the end of reading Chapter 4, it all now made sense to me. But Stan, I am very hard headed and I didn't do anything with the information for a few weeks. I just contemplated it off & on as I would look back at the book and reread different sections. Honestly I can't remember the exact date I bought the book, but I know it was a good few weeks before I started actively promoting Big Dogs. I was reading the different 'In the Spotlight' articles on the training manual of your site when I ran across Juan Walker's article. I noticed that Juan had mentioned he lived in Pensacola, Florida, which is just 50 miles west of where I live, so I decided to look his number up and give him a call to ask him some questions about the Big Dogs program."

"After speaking with Juan for over an hour and asking him several questions, I then decided to actively promote Big Dogs."

"Once I finally did get started with C.H.I.P. programs, I did so as what you would call a 'part-timer.' I could not afford to jump into all the CHIP programs at once and I also wanted to slowly try the programs out. After requesting and receiving my users signup module, I started off by signing up for Adminder. I know that tracking your ads is very important Online or Offline! I already had Group Mailer but this would have been my next purchase. After that, I subscribed for Adsaturation and Email Promoter to get some practice in the PC based and also the Set & Forget email system. Over the course of the next 6 weeks, I slowly signed up for the rest of the C.H.I.P's programs."

Stan:  "Very logical, systematic approach to the whole program, Scott.  What about your ads?  Although this is the most important area of Internet marketing, it's the one area that the vast majority of folks have the biggest problem with."

Scott:  "I would call the type of ad style that I'm using to promote Big Dogs the 'Real Deal style.'"

"Basically, you just tell your story, tell the prospect what they are doing wrong, how you can help them, and a strong call to action at the end of the message to instruct them on what I want them to do."

"I had no idea how to write ads until I started studying the various email ads that Big Dogs members had shared with us in your excellent series of 'In the Spot Light' articles in the Training Manual.  I also read Chris Gibson's 'Email Ads of Gold.'  I still had trouble applying what I learned at first, but I'd like to thank Juan Walker for helping me apply the techniques explained by Chris in his book. It's funny, but also very frustrating at the same time, when all the information is right in your face and it seems so simple, but you just can't seem to get it!"

Stan:  "So are you saying that after studying ads of other Alpha Dogs, and applying 'Email Ads of Gold' principals, you were successful at writing good, productive ads?"

Scott:  "You gotta be kiddin' me!!!  I number all my Big Dog's Ads, starting with # 001, but it wasn't until ad # 019 that I finally had an 'Email Ad of Gold.'"

Stan:  "Whoa!  Let's stop right there, because I want everyone to hear - I mean really HEAR -exactly what it is you're saying.  One thing I am always preaching is that in order to be successful, you MUST learn to write good ad copy.  You simply canNOT merely copy the so-called 'proven' ads and make them work for you.  You will find that your actual marketing takes relatively little time - less than an hour a day.  What DOES take time is developing your copy writing techniques."

"Now, in YOUR case, Scott, apparently you wrote and marketed EIGHTEEN DIFFERENT ADS before you finally got one that clicked.  There is an important lesson to be learned here.  The average marketer is going to put together one ad, and if that ad doesn't work, whose fault is it?  Why, the PROGRAM'S fault, isn't it!!!???  Oh, maybe he'll then go on to write a second and a third ad before throwing in the towel.  But YOU - you had the persistence and determination to slug it out until you finally  had that magical 19th ad!  Congratulations!"

Scott:  "Yeah, it's funny how you can work so hard on an ad, think it's the perfect, ultimate ad that is going to knock every prospect's socks off.  And it fails miserably.  Then later on, when you develop your writing abilities and go BACK to that ad, it hits you between the eyes exactly what you were doing wrong.  It just takes time and patience."

"Anyway, here's my 'Ad Number 019.'  I hope that it helps the rest of the crew..."

Ad #019:

Subject Line:

I have a Question about YOUR AD

(notice I indented three spaces before my subject line, this helps your email stand out from the rest)

Sales Message:

"Do you think you worded your ad right?"

"WHO CARES!!!  NO ONE SAW IT!"

"Does this make you MAD? Well, it should! You are being cheated. Cheated on your time. Your time is your life, and if you're wasting time, then you're wasting your life."

"Okay, I did not mean to be so harsh. I just want to get my point across to you. I do care about your situation because you are JUST LIKE how I used to be."

"I can guarantee you that posting FREE ads is not working for you, and you are not getting sales or signups from it!  No one will ever see your ad that you posted to my FFA page except a robot and maybe yourself. This is not the way you market successfully online."

"How do I know you are not doing your marketing properly?"

"Because I was doing the EXACT same things that you are doing, such as using Ad Blasters that post to 'thousands of advertising networks,' or manually posting free ads."

"FREE ADS DON'T WORK!"

"I've bought 'opt-in business & MLM leads' from different sources, always with the same results - NOTHING! I've tried buying 'Guaranteed traffic,' which will eat a big hole through your wallet quicker than anything.  I've done traffic exchanges and none of them work. You will waste your life away 'clicking for credits.' Have you ever tried that screen saver program? HA! What a joke that is! Sure, your counter will show thousands of hits, but no one is buying because they are not seeing your website!"

"I know you've got hundreds of messages to delete, but you've got to pay attention to me if you want to market online!"

"I just want to share some Important Information with you that will help you learn how to accomplish what you are trying to do online - which is to Make Money, right? This information is responsible for my Internet Marketing Intelligence today.  I have included my personal phone number and email address at the bottom of this message if you would like to talk with me. You can check out this information at:"

"I think that you have been misinformed as to how Internet Marketing REALLY works. It's very frustrating when you put everything you've got into something, day in and day out, and see no return for your efforts. I did that for months and I believe that you are doing the same things that I was."

"It's hard to see through the TRASH that has polluted the Internet. You will easily fall prey to the vultures that know your weaknesses. They understand how you think. People who try to make quick money are the perfect victims to those who know what's going on."

"The information that I learned is not some 'Incredible Breakthrough.'"

"The Pros have been using these methods for years to generate consistent traffic that buys. You can either find out these simple techniques NOW or you can keep on doing what you are doing with the same results."

"I will not lie to you and tell you this is totally easy. Internet Marketing is not Magic...It's work! But, it can be done when you have the Power of the Right Knowledge. I now spend just an hour for my marketing chores! Sure, I still spend more time than that when I am writing new ads, but this information that I'm going to share with you has taught me to cut down my time on the computer so that I can spend more time with my fiancée and baby boy and they are both very happy with that!"

"You see, the only differences between you and me is this..."

"I use the Right Tools & I have the Correct Information."

"The simple FACTS are these:  You will continue to fail if you do not have the correct information.  The only thing standing between you and your success is knowing & applying the right techniques and using the right tools."

"Do you WANT to continue to use the wrong tools & techniques that are not working for you?  Or do you want to educate yourself with the accurate facts? You CAN find out this information right now! Go to the site right away and check it out. Start applying these methods immediately!"

Stan:  "Damn fine ad, Scott!  Now, are there any additional promotional venues you use besides the C.H.I.P. programs?"

Scott:  "The C.H.I.P. programs give you a solid foundation and plenty of leads to market to, but in addition to promoting through the C.H.I.P. programs I also utilize the power of safelists. Other than SafeList World, which we all know is one of the C.H.I.P's programs, I also use Safelist Boys to manage my safelist advertising. I used to view Safelists as worthless until I 'learned the ropes' and then I noticed a phenomenal increase in my Safelist Clicks! Ever since then I have been fascinated with Safelists and am studying and trying to learn more."

Stan:  "Okay, Scott, shall we close up shop to let you get back to work?  Any parting comments?"

Scott:  "Overall I would say that Big Dogs has greatly helped by giving me a system and a marketing plan."

"Before Big Dogs I was lost in what I call 'The Internet Maze.' I was going nowhere fast and did not have a plan. I now have a set procedure for marketing Big Dogs everyday.  Your comprehensive step-by-step procedures explained in Chapter 8 to help during the signup process and your training manual instructions are so simple to understand & follow that I don't know why I did not pay attention to them when I first started. Like I mentioned before, I am hard headed and didn't realize the value of the information that was sitting right in front of me! This was my biggest mistake and I would recommend for everybody to print out each section and read it before you get started. This will drastically decrease your time spent getting familiar with the different C.H.I.P. programs."

"Some final words of advice for new Alpha Dogs..."

  • constantly work on your ad writing skills,

  • be patient,

  • and continually educate yourself in the ever-changing world of Internet Marketing.
