"Experts" Can
Be Proven Wrong!
Sometimes
ya just gotta relax and smell the
roses!
I know all you troops in the trenches
out there devote a lot of time and effort to the Big Dogs business.
(Our sales figures SHOW that!) But every once in a while, ya
need to "unplug" and look at the lighter side of life.
Below are a group of ACTUAL COMMENTS
made by recognized "experts" in the field of computing
technology that I thought you dogs would find entertaining. They
just go to show you that history has a way of making ANYBODY look,
well, a trifle foolish...
1943
-Thomas Watson, Chairman of IBM:
"In my professional opinion
there is a world market for perhaps five computers."
1949
-Popular Mechanics magazine:
"With the enormous strides
taking place in the miniaturization of electronic components, we
foresee a day when computers may weigh no more than five
tons."
1968
-A senior engineer at the Advanced
Computing Division of IBM, when asked to comment on the newly invented
microchip:
"It's an interesting little
device, but I see no practical application for it."
1977
-Ken Olson, president, chairman, and
founder of Digital Equipment Corporation:
"I see no reason why anyone
would need or want a computer in their home."
1980
Steve Jobs - the founder of Apple
Computer, Inc - on his attempts to get Atari and Hewlett-Packard
interested in the personal computer that he and Steve Wozniak created:
"So we went to Atari and said,
'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your
parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we'll just
GIVE it to you - we just want to do it. Pay our salary and
we'll come work for you.'"
"And Atari said, 'No.'"
"So we went to
Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You
haven't even finished college yet!'"
1981
Bill Gates, when asked how much memory
a Personal Computer should have:
"640K ought to be enough for
anybody!"
(Note: The typical PC you
have in your home today has about 100,000 times that much memory!
Geez, I guess even the 'ol Bill-meister can be wrong sometimes!)

A VERY well-known Internet
marketing "guru" (who, for obvious reasons will remain
nameless here), commenting about the then-new marketing phenomenon of
the Big Dogs:
"Well, it seems as though yet
one more marketing program, this one known as 'Secrets of the Big
Dogs,' is taking the Internet by storm! While I will concede
that Mr Stuchinski's ebook is well-written and often amusing, the
so-called 'Big Dogs' will be just another flash-in-the-pan - here
today and gone tomorrow like all other 'hot, new programs.'
By September you'll never hear of the Big Dogs again."
Yep! History DOES have a way of
making even acknowledged experts look just a little naive, doesn't
it!?
