GUARANTEED Traffic For Your Website That You Pay For Only AFTER You Actually Get Visitors!

Mastering Pay Per Click Search Engines

In Chapter 4 of the "Secrets of the Big Dogs" ebook we talked extensively about search engines in general.  If you'll recall, we said that the so-called art of "search engine positioning" was an exercise in futility for Internet marketers.

But we also stated that there WAS a solution.  Search engines CAN be used in as a practical means of generating substantial traffic to your website – WITHOUT having to take on search engine positioning as a full-time job.

That solution is the "pay-per-click" concept.

A few years ago a relatively minor search engine by the name of "Overture" (formerly GoTo.com) decided to try a unique, new method of listing placement. What they decided to do was to base the ranking of your website on how much you PAID for any particular search term.

As an example, let’s assume that your website is all about Nutritional Supplements, and you wanted to rank high in the listings when someone used Overture to search for sites about "nutritional supplements."  Well, Overture made it E-A-S-Y!  If you wanted that coveted "page 1, number 1" position, all you had to do was PAY for it - out-bid everybody else for that particular search term.

For example.....

If the present page 1 #1 ranking was held by a website that was paying, say 3 cents per click, you could capture that #1 spot simply by bidding 4 cents per click. Overture then simply deducted 4 cents from your account each time someone clicked on your link. And there was no limit to the number of search terms you could bid on! You could put in a bid for "nutrition," "supplements," "health supplements," "vitamins," "minerals," and so on…the list of bid terms is limited only by your imagination.

It’s GUARANTEED traffic to your website that you pay for ONLY if you actually get visitors!

Has Overture been successful? You betcha! SO successful, in fact, that their minimum bid has been upped from just a penny per click to five cents per click!

Now, when Overture first started using this system, they were very much ballyhooed by the "the net should be free for everybody" – "the net should be a level playing field" crowd. Even from the first, however, after months of playing the search engine game myself, I felt that the Overture system was the only LOGICAL way for search engines to work. Sure enough, today  there are nearly FOUR HUNDRED other search engines, attempting to capitalize on the Overture "pay-per-click" concept. In fact, as of this writing, there are rumblings on the net that the other major SE’s are considering some form of "pay for placement" type of listing procedure.

So the bottom line is that the PPC's ("Pay-Per-Click" search engines) are here to stay - in fact they are becoming more popular every day.  And common sense tells you why they ARE popular - they WORK!  After all, what other form of advertising do you pay for only AFTER you get results!?

And think about this:  Prospects that click on your link in a search engine are the most highly targeted traffic of all!  Why?  Because  (1) The prospect must first go to that search engine site,  (2) He must then do a search using a specific key word or phrase that applies to YOUR website,  (3) After receiving a list of several sites that are relevant to his search, he must finally click on YOUR link.

In other words, the prospect must "jump through three hoops" before he gets to your website - he has to REALLY want to go there!  You can't get much more targeted than that!

Ah, but (there's always a "but," isn't there?).....

There are a LOT of technicalities and pitfalls that you need to be aware of before you can make effective use of PPC's!  For example.....

  • PPC's require that you escrow a minimum deposit (usually $25.00) to pay for your future click-thrus.  But with hundreds of PPC search engines out there, which ones are even worth that minimum deposit?
  • Some of the newer PPC's pay, or otherwise reward, their searchers for clicking on links!  You certainly don't want to pay for such non-targeted clicks from people who aren't even interested in your site!
  • How much should you bid for a key search term?  Is having the number 1 spot, or the number 3 spot, or just being in the top 10 search results, the most cost-effective positioning?
  • How can you plot your cost-per-sale versus click-thru expenses paid to PPC's?
  • .....and many, MANY more.
