“The challenge of any organization is to build a feeling of oneness, of dependence on one another - because the question is not how well each person works, but how well they work as a TEAM!”
You Can Please SOME of the People ALL of the Time, and ALL of the People SOME of the Time, But You Can't Please ALL of the People ALL of the Time!
I want everybody to like me!
I know, I know, I know. That's totally unrealistic. No matter how hard you try, you just can't please everybody. It brings to mind a guy who lived about two thousand years ago: His message was merely one of love and peace, and what'd they do - they nailed him to a tree.
Ya just can't please everybody, can ya!?
And yet I try. I have sincerely tried to make the Big Dogs program a worthwhile, valuable program for Internet marketers. And apparently I've succeeded. We will soon be celebrating our second anniversary, and we've collected hundreds of glowing testimonials from people all over the world complimenting the Big Dogs ebook and program. I can get a dozen wonderful, complimentary emails, but all it takes is ONE that is NOT so complimentary - or just plain irritating - to ruin my day. And if you're like me - and you probably are - you feel the same way.
Now if you'll recall, one of the Principles of the Big Dogs that I wrote about in the ebook is that in order to maintain a sense of mental balance we all have to realize that "we are not alone" in this sometimes crazy, always exhilarating, business of Internet marketing. If you are a consistent promoter of Big Dogs, or any program for that matter, you are bound to get your share of emails that make you climb the walls.
So, just to show you that you AREN'T alone, I thought I would share with you just a very, very few of the tons of "where does this guy find the time to write this stuff" emails we get here at Home Office.....
According to surveys, less than 1% of sales websites have the physical address of the company, the company's main email address, and the company's telephone number. As you know, WE do. Now that simple, little thing buys us a lot of credibility, but it also is an open invitation for people who you wouldn't want to invite for dinner to contact us. I don't mind - in fact, I look forward to - answering reasonable, legitimate questions of genuinely sincere, well-meaning people.
On the other hand.....
"Be very brief and tell me what this is all about. Then tell me exactly how I can make money, using very simple language like I was a six year old boy."
Now, just how do you answer this ONE!? Here's a guy who wants a three sentence summary of a one hundred and thirty page ebook (without buying it, of course), and then - AND THEN - wants to know exactly how to make money! I just LOVE people who want to be told how to be a success in ten words or less.
What's even more frustrating is when you attempt to ANSWER such questions. Then these folks, who have all the time in the world on their hands (and feel that you do, too) take it as an invitation to be your regular email buddy. Their first question is followed by a second - and a third - and a fourth.....
These folks are not really interested in a business - they're looking for a pen pal - and it's REAL easy to get suckered into a never-ending chain of daily emails.
And I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who have a computer but don't have nineteen bucks.....
"I don't have $19.95 but I want your book."
Geez, I don't know WHAT to tell this guy! At least he's brief and right to the point! LOL!
"I have no credit card, no checking account, and no way of getting either one, but I want your book. Tell me how to get it."
Now what I FEEL like telling this guy is, "First of all, shut off your computer. Then go out and get a job. If you already have a job and you're not making enough money, then get a second, part time job. Finally, after a few months, when you're in a stable financial position, only THEN should you even consider getting into your own business."
Think he'd like that answer?
Y'see fellow Dogs, I am from the old school - that's how I was brought up. My dad had to quit school when he was fifteen years old to work in the coal mines to help support his family. Years later, when he had his own family and the mines shut down, he took the only job an uneducated coal miner could get - a research subject in a government laboratory! (True story!) That was the work ethic of the previous generation of Americans. Today, however, lured by the carrot of Internet millions, they "want it all, want it now" even if they're not in a position to pay for it!
But here's my favorite type of "I got no money but I wanna be rich" emails.....
"I am currently in a bind with money and can't buy the book, but you seem to think that this book is 'all that and a bag of chips.' So I will do this for you - GIVE ME YOUR BOOK FOR FREE, and I will read it and do what it says. If the book makes me as much money as you say it will, then instead of paying you $19.95, I will pay you $40.00 once the money starts rolling in."
"So the question is - 'how much do you believe in your own book?'"
Doncha just LOVE that last one! What a great guy! First he admits that he's broke, but then throws down a challenge - ""How much do you believe in your own book?" Apparently, he assumes that if I really believe in it, then I'll give it to him for FREE. He thinks he's being generous by offering me double the cost of the book - but only AFTER he makes money!
Surprisingly I get at least one of these "offers" every week. To these people it seems perfectly logical that they should have something for nothing, until it is PROVEN to work. I would LOVE to see 'em get a nice big screen TV from Sears, but only pay for it AFTER they had it home for a few weeks to make sure they liked it! (I wonder if I could talk McDonald's into giving me one of their franchises for free until I started making money. Whaddya think?)
This next guy really fooled me for a while when I read the first sentence in his email. Then I read his SECOND sentence.....
"On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think is the realistic likelihood of making good money on the Internet?"
"I mean GOOD money - like YOU'RE making - given that I don't want to put a lot of time and effort into it."
At first I thought he was simply asking my professional opinion of Internet marketing in general. But then I read the rest of his message. So let me ask you fellow Big Dogs out there... What do YOU think his likelihood of making money is - given that he doesn't want to put a lot of time or effort into it!?
Yeah, some of these emails that come in make ya just wanna heave a deep sigh. Some make ya wanna chuckle. And some - some make your blood boil.
On our initial sales page for the "Secrets of the Big Dogs" ebook, we indicate that it is, in fact, an E-book (i.e. an E-lectronic-book - one that is not made of paper) no less than three times. In addition, BEFORE a person even clicks on the purchase link, we state (in bold type) the following:
".....you'll have access to our "Secrets of the Big Dogs" ebook IMMEDIATELY! Since it is an "E"-book, you DON'T have to wait for it to be delivered by snail mail! AND!...to make it as easy as possible for EVERYONE to read, you don't even have to go through the hassle of downloading it like most other ebooks! "Secrets of the Big Dogs" can simply be read online, or printed out so you have your own hard-copy to read at your leisure!"
Pretty simple to understand, isn't it? IF you simply R-E-A-D. But I guess it's not simple enough for some folks. Take a look at THIS email. (By the way, I've used asterisks in place of some of the words in the actual email)
"I feel very ripped off by you. NO WHERE do you indicate that this is an 'e'-book, until after you have collected your fee. This makes you totally dishonest as far as I'm concerned. You must think you're pretty smart fooling people by showing a hard cover book as your bait...and then switching to an "e" book so I get the pleasure of using $50 worth of ink and paper to print the d*** thing!"
"I'm so f***ing mad right now I could chew nails...and then spit them at your face. I spend enough time online and I did not want to purchase an 'e-book' so I can spend even more time staring at my monitor (or spend the $50 to print the d*** thing)."
"Sign me - P***ED OFF in ______."Where do these people actually find the time to sit down and write such garbage!?
Now, like I stated above, the reason I'm sharing a few of my more "colorful" emails with you folks is that if you're an active Internet marketer, you are bound to get some of these on occasion. The important thing to remember is that, "You're NOT alone!" Always remember that you don't get tackled unless you're carrying the ball! Just go with the flow, and "fagiddaboutdit."
Because - because, my friends, emails like the ones below far make up for it.....
"Thank you for your words of encouragement! It is because of people like you that I now know I will be successful on-line and never have to go back to the 'dirt world' again!"
-Ray Hould

You have not given me a fish, but taught me how to catch a fish...that will sustain me for the rest of my internet life."
